Naomi takes a tour of Neptune Terminals, an important part of the waterfront industry in North Vancouver. The company was hosting some of their industry clients during the Olympics.
A Russian Tall Ship was docked at Pier at the foot of Lonsdale in North Van for the duration of the Olympics. The Ship was host to many Russian dignitaries for their stay in Vancouver. The torch came to North Vancouver and was at the Lonsdale Quay in the morning. The experience was amazing, and never seen Lonsdale Quay so full of excited people.
Eye of the Wind, Grouse Mountain. Naomi was part of the inaugural ceremonies to start the Eye of the Wind atop Grouse Mountain. The Eye is a wind turbine, which will produce part of the electrical needs for the Grouse Mountain resort. The Premier was at the ceremonies too.

The Minister reviewed the government’s September Budget Update, and spoke of how British Columbia will be a leader in coming out of the current economic downfall. Naomi with Susan Skinner, chairperson, North Vancouver Board of Education take part in some water fun with a Norgate pre-schooler. The newly opened preschool is located within a newly renovated section of Norgate Elementary School. The child care will be run through the well-established North Shore Neighbourhood House.
Naomi, together with Acting City of North Van Mayor Guy Heywood, and North Van MP Andrew Saxton, announced a joint investment of $3,451,014 through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund and the Building Canada Fund, extending the Spirit Trail a unique, waterfront-oriented, multi-use and fully accessible greenway that will provide pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and people with wheeled mobility aids access across the North Shore, from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove.
Naomi, with Acting City of North Van Mayor Guy Heywood, and North Van MP Andrew Saxton announced a joint Federal/ Provincial/ Municipal investment of $1,448,000 to improve the safety of three key North Vancouver bridges. The bridge upgrade projects include the replacement of the aging Bewicke Bridge over Mosquito Creek, as well as seismic upgrades to the heavily used Cotton Road Bridge over Lynn Creek and the Marine Drive Bridge over Mosquito Creek.
Naomi, together with Acting City of North Van Mayor Guy Heywood, and North Van MP Andrew Saxton, announced a joint investment of $3,451,014 through the Infrastructure Stimulus Fund and the Building Canada Fund. The funds will be used to extend the multi-use trail of the Keith Road Greenway from St. Andrews to Grand Boulevard, and also for the Harbourside West Pedestrian Overpass, an important, by costly, part of the Spirit Trail.
The Spirit Trail will be a unique, waterfront-oriented, multi-use and fully accessible greenway that will provide pedestrians, cyclists, inline skaters and people with wheeled mobility aids access across the North Shore, from Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove. Local artist Jane Clark created the Spirit Mural, located at Forbes and 1st Street. The Spirit Mural, which can be seen from the Spirit Trail, was unveiled with Premier Gordon Campbell in attendance. Naomi took part in the announcement of a new Film Centre to be built at Capilano University. In a 50/50 partnership with the Federal government, the Province will be funding a total of just over $15 million to build a $30 million new film centre at Capilano University. Having served on the Board of Capilano College, Naomi knows how important this project is to Capilano U and to the local film community. The new Centre will provide an even stronger hub for the film industry on the North Shore, and for British Columbia.
British Columbia proudly hosted the World Police and Fire Games 2009. Naomi was happy to take part in podium celebrations atop Grouse Mountain. Hundreds of competitors from around the world sprinted up the North Shore’s Grouse Grind, with top times within 35 minutes.
